Digital Taste

This project aims at understanding our sense of taste and designing immersive media to enhance the sense of taste with electrical stimulation. We design a "Fruit Basket" with artificial fruits with embedded digital taste technology. Upon tasting the fruit, we simulate salty sour and bitter tastes. We also use olfactory feedback with fragrance diffusing circuits to create fruity smells enhancing the sense of virtual taste.

Dr. Nimesha Ranasinghe's invention ("the digital taste technology- the Digital Lollipop")  was selected as one of the ten best innovations in the world by the Netexplo Forum in UNESCO HQ, Paris.

This project was supervised by Prof. Ellen Yi-Luen Do and co-supervised by Dr. Nimesha Ranasinghe at the Keio-NUS CUTE (Connective Ubiquitous Technology for Embodiments) Center at National University of Singapore
